Manchester researchers receive prestigious national appointments
Two professors from the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Manchester Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) have been appointed Senior Investigators by the NIHR.
Senior Investigators are among the most prominent and prestigious researchers funded by the NIHR. They are outstanding leaders of patient and people-based research within the NIHR research community. A total of 39 Senior Investigators have been appointed in the 18th cohort, along with 19 re-appointments, featuring researchers from social care, public health, methodology, pharmacy, dentistry, and clinical research.

Professor David French, Professor of Health Psychology at The University of Manchester, current President of the European Health Psychology Society and part of Manchester BRC’s Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Theme (pictured left), has been appointed.
Professor Peter Hoskin, Professor of Clinical Oncology at The University of Manchester, and key researcher within Manchester BRC’s Cancer Advanced Radiotherapy Theme, (pictured right) has been re-appointed.

Professor Anne Barton, Director of the NIHR Manchester BRC, said; “Huge congratulations to Professor French on his appointment and to Professor Hoskin on his re-appointment. Senior Investigator appointments are highly prestigious honours and demonstrate exceptional research and leadership strengths, alongside tackling the health and care challenges we face.”
NIHR Senior Investigators are prestigious researchers who make outstanding leadership contributions to the work of the NIHR. They are ambassadors for the NIHR, help shape research capacity development and play a leading role in guiding strategy across the health and social care landscape.

It is hosted by Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and The University of Manchester, in partnership with Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust.
