‘Celebrating You In Research’ Event
The BRC Public Programmes team organised a fantastic ‘Celebrating You In Research’ tea party at the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester on Thursday 5th July to mark the 70th birthday of the NHS.
The event provided an opportunity to bring people together and thank the research community, including patients and public contributors, researchers and creative partners for their vital contributions to research.
Professor Kevin Munro, BRC Hearing Health Theme Lead and BRC PPIE Lead said:
A big thank you to the patients and public who help to improve our research.
Dr Lorna McWilliams, Research Fellow at Christie Patient Centred Research added: “Without you, I wouldn’t be able to make sure our research ideas are worthwhile to those we hope it will impact.”
The patient and public contributors, researchers and artists attending learnt more about the creative Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) projects linked to Manchester BRC and Manchester Clinical Research Facility (CRF) research. They also viewed and interacted with some of the amazing artwork produced with patients, researchers and the public as part of these projects.
There were wide-ranging discussions about ways to enhance public and patient involvement and engagement with new audiences, over tea and cake. One public contributor commented: “I learned a lot about the projects that have taken place, gained ideas and had some really interesting conversations.”
